Green River Utah Welcome Sign |
Introduction
One of things I like most about traveling is getting up early and sneaking in a run just as the run rises in a new area - particularly an area that people generally overlook. Faithful readers know I love to capture a town when it hasn't completely awaken yet and on my trip down to Albuquerque I had the chance to log a 4 mile run through the main street of Green River Utah.
Green River is just a map dot on our way down south and to be honest there isn't a whole lot happening there. It is the last major town before you hit Moab and many people who can't find a hotel / motel in Moab stay here (since it is only 45 minutes away - and significantly cheaper).
I knew I was going to be driving most of the day and eating poorly so despite having a marathon on Sunday, I knew I had to burn a few calories on Friday morning. So I was up just as the sun was rising, slipped out of the Super 8 Motel, and ran down Main Street, capturing the sites and sounds of Green River. Normally I only do 2 - 3 miles, but curiosity got the best of me and I did a few more miles than I should've but it was worth getting some of these photos.
I only ran into one other runner who seemed to be dressed in light winter gear. And here I am plodding away in shorts and a t-shirt. I guess he was just as surprised as I was in seeing another runner.
Enjoy the scenery!

The Green River welcome sign was originally painted by former resident Jaymzlinn Saxton, who recently passed away. She loved Green River, with some of her most memorable times on the river and area.
