Cave Lake |
Introduction
The
Ely Half Marathon is held at
Cave Lake State Park and I was just impressed with the natural beauty contained within. Located about 15 minutes from Ely itself, this area is surrounded by vegetation, animals (elk primarily but sadly I didn't see any), mountains with some absolutely stunning rock formations and of course a lake just made for fishing (from the looks of it people were actually catching stuff too)
After finishing
my race, I took the opportunity to photograph a lot of the lake and area.
Unfortunately I was on a bit of a time crunch as Shari was waiting for me in Ely at the hotel. I had promised that I would be back around noon and it was rapidly approaching that time after doing the post race activities. It looks like there was a ton of trails behind the lake as well and I was itching to jump on them.
A road after the lake, one can take a 26 mile dirt road ride up into the mountains (which eventually takes you to just north of McGill). I didn't have time to do this and it was recommended that you have a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Also I had plans for so many other activities for the day, I knew I would have to save this for a latter trip.

On the way back into town I also stopped by Comins Lake, which is right off the freeway about 10 minutes south of Ely. This lake wasn't as sexy but it looked like it was suitable for fishing as well.
