Week's Summary

Believe it or not I felt less sore after running the full marathon in Helena versus the Oquirrh Mountain Half Marathon.  I remember I was feeling the lingering soreness all the way until Thursday.  While after the Helena marathon, I probably could've gone for a run on Monday.

This week I really focused on just getting in some decent miles and rebuilding my base . I'll be honest, since I've run a marathon in April, May and now June, I haven't really run a lot of miles to maintain marathon-level endurance.  In my opinion, the amount of miles you run in a given week is a good predictor on how well you will fare in the marathon.  While forty miles a week may sound good to many people (and what I have been running prior to Helena), I think that is the bare minimum for being marathon ready.  My best marathon results have come when I have run 60 - 80 miles per week and I haven't really been that high up in a while.

Summer is Here

Well, summer is here in full swing in Utah.  Our day time temperatures are now hovering over 90 degrees (and soon over 100).  This certainly makes running a challenge.  I am not really a morning runner, although I should be as it is the best time to run.  So that forces me to start my run around 8:00 - 8:30 at night (it doesn't get dark until close to ten here).  It isn't great, as it makes it tough for me to fall asleep at night and then consequently get up to work at 5:45 the next morning.  I do enjoy the night runs though on account there are a ton of people on the bike trail and I can have a solid workout without feeling like I am going to die from the heat.

Plantar Fasciitis

I've dealt with this wretched problem since 2004.  I've gone through some significant lengths of time where I've hardly noticed it, but after this week it is pretty bad.  Looks like I'll have dig out my orthotics which I find uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time -- but they do work.
