Highway 50 - Starting in Ely

Me inside Hotel Nevada

Introduction

The journey along Highway 50, for me started in Ely Nevada.  Ely is probably best known as a base point for the Great Basin National Park, which is located about an hour outside of town.

I've been to Ely a few times, the most memorable was when I was there for the Take it to the Lake Half Marathon.  I had spent a good amount of time in Ely exploring and doing the main touristy things.

So on my Highway 50 drive, my task was to get my passport stamped.  I opted to stop in at Hotel Nevada, a historic hotel on the west side of town.

I rolled in just shy of 10 AM after driving from Wendover.  You'd think the main thoroughfare would be filled with morning traffic, but you could've walked right down the middle of the street without any problems.

I stopped into the hotel and got my passport stamped and used the restroom.  I wound up dumping about $50 into a slot machine -- all for naught.  So much for small casinos being lucky.

I had a full day ahead of me, so we didn't linger long.  I grabbed a few pictures and headed my way west towards Illipiah Reservoir.
