Week's Summary

What can I say, this week was all about recovery -- well except for the race.  I had visions of the 30K being doubtful but I signed up for an entire race package and out of the 5 races, I had only been to two of them.  The 10 mile race I was out of town for and the half was rained out.  So to get my money's worth I *had* to do the 30K.  While probably not the brightest thing I've ever done I did manage to collect two medals and have a decent morning doing what I love to do best: run.

I had had a few tender spots after the marathon, namely in my left foot.  Right around where the shoe laces come across the top of your foot.  It smarted just to walk on it.  However, as the week progressed I felt better.  I had fears that it wouldn't hold up during the race -- but somehow it did.

As I write this, I feel pretty good.  Just soreness and some tiredness.

Pets Update

On my off days, I always walk at least a mile or two, so all the activity does add up.  Mostly I walk to where my feral cat lives that I feed every day.  I did make contact with him.  Before, when he'd see me, he'd take off.  The other day he saw me approach and didn't take off.  I didn't press my luck but he definitely knows my schedule.

I never did hear about the dog that I found.  He was chipped so I am assuming they found his owners.  I did check the checkbox saying I wanted to be notified if they couldn't be found.  He was a nice dog but I don't think I am quite ready for one.  It would've been a hard decision if I had gotten that call.

It has also been a hard adjustment not having any pets in the house.  For the past 20 years I've had 3 cats and 2 dogs living with him.  Gradually, they either left with another family member or died of old age.  It is a strange silence and unusual not to have a dog to walk or a little box that needs to be cleaned.

Weight Loss

I haven't written a lot about this recently.  I haven't done a crash diet or anything.  Just trying to be mindful about what I eat and drink.  I am down to about 179 - 180.5.  That's down a few pounds.  I am getting the results that I put into it -- which isn't terribly dedicated.  I just have quit buying cookies and I don't drink soda anymore.  So I am hoping some small changes will pay large dividends down the road.
