Week's Summary
Well, this week I took my first day off in quite sometime. I needed it too.
After a successful high mileage week last week, I largely continued to pile on the miles. I managed to get one quality workout in -- Wednesday where I really pushed the pace as much as I could for about 9 of the 10 miles.
I also managed to eek out a pretty decent half marathon despite having some issues. All week I had felt sort of "off" and in a fog. It wasn't until later in the week that I sort of came out of it and it might have carried over into the race. I was hoping to capitalize on my success in St George but it just wasn't my day. Also, I have to remember, I am at 4300 feet of elevation here, versus 2000 (or so) down south.
The weather in Utah has been absolutely awesome for running and it has been a joy to get out and log miles. The bike trail is also finally bristling with activity and it is nice to see people that I haven't seen since the fall turned into winter.
This week will be more of the same except further reduced. I am hoping to cut down the mileage a bit more as I begin a more formal taper for the Sand Hollow Marathon. At the end of the week I the gut busting 10 mile race for the Winter Striders Race Circuit. Last year I ran it and it thoroughly kicked my butt. It is a super hilly race that is a challenge. Hopefully I can better last year's time -- even a little bit.
