Week's Summary

This week went really well.  I dialed it back in terms of volume and got in two quality workouts.  The first one was on Tuesday where I did 1 mile repetitions at roughly 5K pace.  I broke each rep with a little over 2 minutes of walk / jogging.  It felt really good to get in the tougher workout.  I dread doing the "work" but when I am doing it and afterwards, I feel a lot better about my training.

Saturday's long run was interesting.  I normally run solo but over the past month or two I've gotten invites from a local running group to join them.  I was going to join them this week but I was slow getting out of bed (I sort of don't have a definite plans on weekends).

Either way, I was running along and lo and behold, the running group was right behind me and they were setting an aggressive pace.  Long story short, I wound up running with them with about 3 miles at a pretty quick pace.  So I got in two quality workouts this week and this one forced me to keep the pace (otherwise I'd be left behind) and for my ego's pace.  Luckily I could hold it, with about 2 miles at 8:30 pace and the last mile at about 15 - 20 seconds faster.

Losing Weight Progress

I was shocked to see that I had weighed in at 183.6 on Saturday morning.  I had been eating decent all week without "over feasting".  I chalked it up as just the scale being weird.  I did weigh myself on Sunday and logged in at 180.6, about a pound less than less week.  A step in the right direction.

Las Vegas Marathon

This coming Sunday I'll be running the Las Vegas Marathon for the 8th time.  From the e-mails I've been getting it sounds like they are making (or trying to make) the marathon a premiere event.  It sounds like they are going to make the corrals less chaotic and we are getting an early start -- so less waiting.  The course still looks kind of "iffy" in the latter miles but we'll see what they can do.  They have certainly by trying to make a winning course for a while now.

I don't have any time goals... I am guessing on a good day I can hit 4:10 - 4:15.  I am nowhere near Boston qualifying shape, so I am just looking forward to having a good marathon -- I am WAY overdue for one.

Going the Extra Mile

If you've been a faithful reader you know that I sometimes run into an outdoor cat called Snowball.  He isn't homeless, but definitely likes to hang out on the bike trail.  He knows me and recognizes me and he knows my schedule.  I usually carry some dry food for him, which for whatever reason he loves.

The other day I spotted him only to realize that I had completely forgotten to bring him food.  He looked so sad when I left him and he even chased me for a while.

So, what did I do?  I ran about a mile to my house, grabbed some food and then ran back and delivered such food.  It made my day and I am sure I made his.
