Week's Summary

A pretty solid week pretty much sums up this week.  With the weather cooling and some of the leaves changing, I can get a bit excited about the fall running season.

I am not particularly fond of summer for running, but fall and spring are my favorites.  I actually don't mind winters -- except for the lack of races but this summer is winding down and I couldn't be happier from a running standpoint.

It means I can get out a little earlier and enjoy the cooler temperatures.  The trail is slightly less crowded and the scenery is much more colorful.  I am definitely looking forward to the upcoming weeks!

After last week's Race to the Angel, I spent a good part of the early week recovering and going easy.  However, by midweek I was starting to feel good and I was able to get in a much-needed speed workout on Wednesday.  It was definitely harder than I remember it and I felt like it took a lot of effort.

Speed work outs are like going to the dentist:  not the funnest thing in the world, but you need to do it if you want to remain competitive.

Saturday Long Run

What I am most excited about is that my final long run (perhaps of the season) went really well.  I didn't have any goals other than just plod along and get my miles in.  I was shocked to discover that I ran the first 10 miles in 1:34 and finished the entire run in about 3:08.  Granted, I do stop my watch while getting water or using the bathroom (or gabbing with the occasional runner).  But the run went extremely well.

I continue to use Tailwind Nutrition's drink mix.  This stuff is pricey but it seems to work and my mouth feels good after sipping on it for extended periods of time.  Good-bye Gatorade / Powerade!

New Shoes

On Friday I went to the shoe store and bought some new shoes.  Once again, I got the Brooks Adrenaline's 15 edition.  For the past year or so, I've found that the 14 and 15 fall apart pretty easily.  Today was a new low... after a mere 4 days and about 50 miles, the bottom was already shot.

I am inches away from going back to New Balance -- for good.
