Week's Summary
Well I actually ran a lot post Las Vegas Marathon. Instead of the usual week of soreness and lethargy I only had mild soreness... .go figure -- running 19.5 instead of 26.2 results in a lot less wear and tear.
So the first week back was mostly about recovery and getting my confidence back, which had taken a beating after Vegas.
I still didn't feel very good and my training was hit and miss. I ran a semi long run the following Saturday and was good for about 6 miles at what should've been a fairly easy pace before I sort of called it off.
My main goal though was just to feel better about running again. I don't have a lot on the agenda for the foreseeable future.
Although right now I am finding myself getting re-acquainted with my knee injury -- yes the one that plagued me all summer. I am not quite sure when it started but it came on again despite my best efforts to prevent it. I've been diligently doing my physical therapy exercises but it came roaring back.
So I've been doubling down on the exercises and took part of this week off. I've also been icing and reducing the mileage. It seems to be helping. The last thing I need is more physical therapy bills and not doing what I really enjoy: running.
I am still on the fence about marathons. I get a huge payoff from doing them but let's face it: I am not terribly good at them. I really like training and preparing but when it comes to show time, I seem to really struggle. 2017 has shaped up to be a lackluster year in terms of running and racing.
On the plus side, I did get some desert running in. I usually make a trip out to Wendover on Thanksgiving weekend and overeat and spend too much money in the casino. But I really enjoy doing some trail running and sitting in the jacuzzi. I had fun but it wasn't terribly profitable - although I was rich with experiences and the weather was almost May-like in terms of temperature.
In the meantime I am getting my knee back to 100% and trying to focus a bit more on quality rather than quantity in my miles. Hopefully I can get a little bit of my speed back.
